ESL School Advice | 5 Questions to Ask Before you Decide

There are many things to consider when you’re choosing an ESL school to attend.  Here are just 5 questions to ask your school before you decide:

1. How big are the classes?

The bigger the class, the less attention you will receive. Make sure you don’t get lost in a school that is too big.

2. Will my homestay family bee native speakers of English?

In bigger city centers, it’s possible that your homestay family speaks English as a Second Language, so you will not be able to practice your English as much.  If possible, try to confirm your homestay family is a native English speaking family.

3. What does the school focus on?

Some schools focus on test preparation. Other schools emphasize natural, speaking English.  Make sure you ask the school about this, so you can choose a school that focuses on what you want.

4. How much will it cost?

If tuition is very low, it is likely the class size is large, and the quality of the experience will be poor. A good quality school will not be cheap, so it is better to make sure why it is so cheap.

5. What are the teachers, and other school staff like?

Your school will be your home away from home. It’s important that you like the people. Try to find out more about the school from the website, and if possible read about other students’s experiences.

Making a decision about what school to attend is a big job. It’s okay to ask lots of questions. If you’re interested in asking us the above questions and more, we would love to hear from you. Just email hello at OceansideEnglish dot com or click here.
